Pasty award
for Valerie
DESPITE stiff competition
Mrs Valerie Miners of
Carnhell Green (above) held
on to the cup she won last
year by baking the best pasty
in the domestic show.
She also took home two
cookery section points cups. The
best entry, though was a loaf of
brown bread made by Mrs Vera
Gay, of Redruth.
A new cup, given by Mr and
Mrs M Fowl, for most points
overall in the domestic show
was won by Mrs Sue Heal, of
Wall.
Her points came mainly from
her handicraft. The section’s
best entry was a white crocheted
baby’s matinee coat the work of
Mrs June Johnstone of Troon.
Miss Debbie Pascoe, secretary
for a second year, said there
were about 700 entries, roughly
the same as last year but with a
marked increase in handicraft.
One reason for that said judge
Mrs Elizabeth Eva, was that the
committee had got out their
schedule in time for competitors
to make the items. She was
pleased with the standard.
In the children’s section,
exhibits by Sarah Marks of
Hayle, won her the points trophy
and that for best handwriting.
It was a happy day for a former
secretary, Miss Elizabeth
Eustice. She entered a fruit cake
for the first time and it beat the
other 23.
