Entries in
sections
increase
by a third
AWAY from the confines of the
parish hall, the enlarged domes-
tic handicraft and children’s
sections were stated in a
marquee for the first time.
New classes were for photo-
graphy, which drew 34 entries,
but Mr. Peter Hughes (Camborne),
the judge, found he had to dis-
qualify many as they were not
to the scheduled size.
Mrs. Margaret Stapleton, joint
secretary, said there were 710
entries, more than 200 up on last
year. Overall, the judges were
well pleased witht he standard.
Cookery judge Mrs. Connie
Richards (Tehidy), had to choose
between classes of 40 pasties, 40
fruit cakes, nearly as many groups
of splits and 30 Victoria sponges.
She said she had difficulty mak-
ing up her mind which was the
best in show. She eventually
picked a sponge from the kitchen
of Mrs. Doreen Varker (Hayle).
Most points.
Mrs. Varker also had most
points in show. But the cup for
most points was confined to the
parish and went to Mrs. Valerie
Miners (Carnhell Green).

One of the show’s busiest men,
although he rarely left his seat, was
Mr Lionel Ferris, the announcer.
Throughout the day he kept up a
chatter of conversation about the
classes and events.
